Care shouldn’t stop at the edge of your budget
Millions of people in Canada go without physiotherapy, therapy, dental care, or an eye exam because private fees are out of reach and the public health plan doesn’t cover them.
AffordableHealth.ca is a simple idea: let people say what they can pay, and connect them with licensed professionals near them who have chosen to offer a reduced rate. We verify every professional against their regulatory College, we keep the platform free for patients, and we fund it with a flat monthly subscription from professionals — never a cut of what you pay for your care.
We cover the kinds of care that public health insurance leaves out, and we are open to licensed professionals in every province and territory.
The problem we are trying to solve
Canada’s public health insurance is good at what it covers and silent about what it doesn’t. Every province pays for your family doctor and your hospital care. What sits outside that varies from one province to the next, but the pattern is the same everywhere: a dentist, a physiotherapist if you are a working-age adult, a therapist you see privately, glasses, a registered dietitian. Those are not luxuries — they are the ordinary maintenance of a body — and they are the first things people drop when money is tight.
The cost of dropping them is rarely zero. It usually arrives later and larger: the filling becomes a root canal, the sore back becomes months off work, the low mood becomes a crisis. Meanwhile a great many licensed professionals already see some patients at reduced rates, and have no straightforward way to say so publicly.
So there are people who cannot pay full price, and professionals willing to charge less, and almost no reliable way for them to find each other. That gap is the whole reason this site exists.
How we make money — and how we don’t
Professionals pay a flat monthly membership to be listed. That is our only revenue.
We do not take a percentage of what you pay for your care, we do not charge per introduction, and we do not sell higher placement in search results. This matters more than it sounds. A platform paid per booking has a reason to nudge you toward more appointments than you need; a platform paid for placement has a reason to show you whoever paid the most rather than whoever fits your budget. A flat fee removes both temptations. You pay the professional directly, and we never handle your money.
We do not sell your information to anyone.
How we check professionals
Every professional is verified against the public register of the body that regulates them in their own province — the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, the College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia, the Ordre des psychologues du Québec, the Alberta College of Social Workers, and so on — before they can receive a single patient. We confirm the registration is real, current and in good standing, and we re-check it.
One field here, osteopathy, is not a regulated health profession anywhere in Canada: there is no College, no protected title and no complaints process. We verify those practitioners through membership of a recognised professional association, which is the strongest check available, and we say so plainly on the page rather than letting the word “verified” do work it hasn’t earned.
What we are not
We are a directory and a matching service. We are not a clinic, we do not employ the professionals listed here, and we do not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. The clinical relationship is between you and the professional you choose, and so is the fee you agree with them.
We are also not an emergency service. In a medical emergency call 911. In a mental health crisis, call or text 9-8-8, at any hour.
Where we are
We are based in Toronto and we are open to professionals across Canada. We are also early: if something here is broken, unclear or wrong, we would rather hear it than not — the contact page reaches a person.
